How To Frame a Custom Size Photo Print
On this website you can get my prints in two sizes: 12x18 inches and 14.67x22 inches. While it’s easy to find frames for 12x18 prints, the larger size I offer is non-standard, therefore, here’s a small guide for framing it correctly.
Recommended Frame Size:
18 x 24 inches (45.7 x 61 cm)
This is a standard, widely available frame size that pairs beautifully with your print.
Matting Advice:
To frame your print properly, you’ll need a custom mat.
Here’s what to ask for:
Mat outer size: 18 x 24 inches
Mat window opening: approximately 14.4 x 21.75 inches
(This gives a slight overlap to keep the print in place without showing edges)
Tip: You can have this mat custom-cut at most framing shops.
Mounting Suggestions:
To keep your fine art print flat and properly positioned:
Do not use glue or tape directly on the front or back of the print
Instead, use acid-free archival hinging tape or photo corners on the back top edge only
This lets the paper breathe and prevents warping over time
Framers know this method well — but if you DIY, YouTube has tutorials on “T-hinge mounting” for fine art.
Final Notes:
All my prints are created on archival, museum-grade paper, designed to last generations.
To preserve the print’s beauty, avoid placing it in direct sunlight or high-humidity areas.
When in doubt, a professional framer is a worthwhile investment for lasting presentation.
